Northeast PGwT: Effective Feedback; Next Steps after a PhD, When Practicals Make Perfect - 3 December 2008, Northumbria University, Newcastle

Event report

Effective Feedback
What is the purpose of feedback? What types of feedback does research show are most useful to students? How can you ensure that you are providing effective feedback? Dr Julie Hulme, Faculty of Sciences, Staffordshire University, will help delegates to answer these questions by encouraging them to reflect upon their own feedback provision. Delegates will also be encouraged to consider innovative ways to use assessment to facilitate student learning without increasing their own workload.

When Practicals make Perfect

Dr. Belinda Winder, Senior Lecturer, School of Social Sciences, Nottingham Trent University, will conduct a session covering some of the difficulties that postgradutes may face when teaching, focusing particularly on how to introduce practical and interactive tasks into classes (and why this is a good thing!).

Next steps after a PhD
Explore the steps involved in preparing to apply for positions after completing a PhD with
Dr. Jacqui Akhurst, Principal Lecturer, Faculty of Health & Life Sciences, York St John University. Jacqui will help delegates to consider the broad range of ways to apply for and gain a position, the marketable skills that studies in psychology provide and some of the ways of ensuring a smooth transition to the next phase.
