Dr. Cathy Craig, Senior Lecturer, Queen's University, Belfast will help new students get to grips with the demands of life as a PhD student. She will discuss what to expect, what is expected and how best to prepare for life after the PhD. If you are new PhD student, don't miss this session.

Working with small groups can be a challenge. Dr. Coral Dando, Postdoctoral Researcher, University of Leicester, will conduct a session covering strategies for teaching in small groups including how to get students to participate. Coral will draw on her extensive teaching experience as well as her background as a former PGwT coordinator.

Publishing papers is of primary importance for success in an academic career. While you may think it is too early to think about publishing, many students actually publish work before finishing their PhDs. Get a jump start on the ins and outs of publishing by joining Professor Richard Carson, Queen's University, Belfast, who will discuss the major issues to consider when writing papers for publication as well as how to target appropriate journals.

One of 24 discipline-based centres within the Higher Education Academy, the Psychology Network supported the teaching and learning of psychology across the UK between 2004 and 2011. A core team, based at the University of York, worked with students, staff, departments, professional bodies and overseas organisations to develop supportive networks and to improve the learning experience of psychology students in Higher Education.
