10:45-12:00Creating an Engaged Classroom
Dr. Julie Hulme, Senior Psychology Lecturer, University of Staffordshire, will lead delegates in exploring ways to encourage interactive learning in large and small groups. Participants will experience some of the suggested techniques for themselves and will be given the opportunity to reflect on ways in which they can increase interactivity and student engagement in their own teaching.

12:45-2:00Getting Funded: Successfully Applying for Grants
Join Psychology Professor, Kate Lowenthal, Royal Holloway University, for this session outlining what's involved in writing a research proposal or other grant application. Kate will address issues such as locating sources of funding, developing ideas and titles, getting feedback, piloting, dealing with ethics, collaborating, intellectual property, and costing.

2:15-3:30Supervising Undergraduate Projects
Supervising undergraduate projects can be the most rewarding part of academic teaching. But successful supervision requires us to negotiate a host of difficult issues. In this session, Dr. Julian Oldmeadow, Psychology Lecturer, University of York, will discuss the functions of projects, the role and limitations of the supervisor, setting and managing expectations, scope of projects, group vs. individual projects, and strategies to deal with common problems.

One of 24 discipline-based centres within the Higher Education Academy, the Psychology Network supported the teaching and learning of psychology across the UK between 2004 and 2011. A core team, based at the University of York, worked with students, staff, departments, professional bodies and overseas organisations to develop supportive networks and to improve the learning experience of psychology students in Higher Education.
