Developing 1st year psychology students' referencing, citation and summarising skills

This miniproject is now complete.

The development of academic essay writing skills, skills in complying with academic conventions related to citation and referencing and the avoidance of plagiarism are becoming key issues for psychology departments. First year students from a variety of backgrounds and differing forms of previous study need assistance in developing these skills early in their first year. Early intervention serves to develop skills and also identify students who need more personal tutor assistance. This also helps to identify 'at risk' students and assist retention by strengthening student-tutor dialogue. The proposed project builds upon existing locally-funded work by further extending the project, disseminating results and establishing a directory of good practice.

A website is now available to support the development of students' referencing, citation, and summarising skills.

A final report from this project is available.

Funding: £6,000.00

Start Date: February 2007
